For USC Students
- USC students interested in K-12 STEM Outreach can join a student organization, volunteer in USC Viterbi’s Pre-College Summer Programs or Viterbi Impact Programs (VIP), Viterbi STEM Educational Outreach Programs (STEM-EOP) or consider a course with a service learning component.
USC Viterbi’s student organizations engage in community service, and there are also K-12 STEM outreach opportunities through Viterbi Impact Program (VIP), the Center for Engineering Diversity and USC WiSE. These student organizations can “adopt” similar student groups at local high schools, where the demand for STEM mentors is great. Organizations that participate in outreach can work with VAST and STEM-EOP staff to help them connect with others in the community, and VAST can also spread the news about this outreach.
Service learning combines formal instruction with service in the community. Graduate and undergraduate students at Viterbi can participate in diverse service learning activities.
- Course-Related Service Learning Projects: Create instructional materials that can be used by teachers interested in infusing engineering research in their K-12 curriculum, or partner with developing communities to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and economical engineering projects.
