Summer Programs

We offer exciting summer engineering programs that include research opportunities, camps and classes introducing K-12 students to engineering, plus full scholarships for Code.org teacher training June 24-28, 2019.

CS@SC

These camps in Computer Science (CS) are designed to provide students with an early education into computer science, engineering, and applied physical science, which are not typically covered in formal K12 curricula.

During the two week camp, students will explore aerospace, electrical, civil and mechanical engineering with hands-on activities such as rockets, circuits, bridges, and robots.  Students will also explore computer science by learning to create video games and write apps.

The Summer High School Intensive in Next-Generation Engineering (SHINE) offers a seven-week immersion in a professor’s lab, with close mentoring by the research team plus SHINE cohort activities.

In this college course, students explore how significant innovations in the areas of 3D computer graphics and 3D printing technologies are revolutionizing how designers, artists, and engineers create products and tools. Students will gain hands-on experience creating their own designs and shaping the creative process to final printed production. Students receive 3 units of USC elective credit upon successful course completion.

Students will participate in a highly experiential course teaching key concepts of engineering entrepreneurship. Students will study cases similar to those of undergraduate and graduate courses. Topics covered include: entrepreneurial team dynamics; technology and strategic assessments; creativity and business model development; communication to investors and technology managers; and technology plan development.

Students will spend three weeks at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where they will develop core skills in collegiate environments. Program activities may include field visits to the Viterbi Startup Garage Incubator in the heart of Silicon Beach and the USC Center for Advanced Manufacturing, as well as interview sessions with real entrepreneurs.

In this college course, students gain an overview of the video game production process and hands-on experience by developing video games and utilizing various software applications. By the end of the course, students will be able to conceptualize, design, develop, implement and integrate current and emerging video game features and technologies. Students receive 3 units of USC elective credit upon successful course completion.
