The IEC3 Learning Model
The IEC3 Technology Summer Camp for Girls applies a learning model aimed at empowering girls to become more involved in computer science. By fostering a growth mindset that allows girls to push past obstacles on the road to innovation while also drawing on their rich socio-cultural experiences during hands-on learning opportunities, the IEC3 Technology Summer Camp will help cultivate the next generation of female STEM pioneers. In the IEC3 Technology Summer Camp for Girls, industry experts, and USC students and staff will apply the IEC3 Learning Model informed by research on the importance of promoting a Growth Mindset, affirming Funds of Knowledge, and providing access to hands-on STEM experiences:
- Growth Mindset: Facilitating a growth mindset in girls, or belief that intellect is not fixed and can be regularly cultivated.
- Funds of Knowledge: Knowledge students gain from their families, communities, and socio-cultural backgrounds is valued and encouraged to be used as a foundation for learning and discovery.
- Access to Hands-on STEM Experiences: Culturally and societally relevant hands-on learning activities to help increase confidence in African American female and Latina students’ ability to excel in STEM.
